Dr. Allen Finley completed his undergraduate and medical school training at Dalhousie University in Halifax, then his anesthesia residency at the University of Toronto. After a further year of research training at Mount Sinai Hospital in Toronto, he returned to Dalhousie in 1986 as a staff anesthesiologist at the IWK Health Centre. He developed a number of research interests, in particular a very rewarding collaboration with Patrick McGrath that began in 1989. Dr. Finley is now Professor of Anesthesia and Psychology at Dalhousie, and the Dr. Stewart Wenning Chair in Pediatric Pain Management at the IWK. He is also Director of Centre for Pediatric Pain Research at the IWK Health Centre. His current research focuses on pain health services, particularly for children in resource-limited settings, but he also has wide-ranging interests in chronic and acute pain measurement and treatment.
