My research involves creating evidence-based treatments for managing procedural pain, with a focus on communication and coping. I plan to use an interactive tour to provide information to children about needle procedures in order to 1) decrease children’s ratings of pain for these procedures and 2) to teach children procedural coping strategies. I will compare the efficacy of the tour to other communication mediums (e.g. videos). I hope to use this research to create an intervention for providing information to children about general medical procedures (e.g. check-up, needle procedure) that can be administered across different settings (e.g. healthcare centers, schools).
