My main research focus involves 1) investigating disability and pain-related beliefs and attitudes of support workers that work with children who have cognitive impairments and are nonverbal and 2) better understanding and addressing training needs of these support workers, providing them with new knowledge and skills that could improve their pain assessment and management abilities. Other areas of focus involve 1) the investigation of therapeutic riding's impact on children with disabilities who have chronic pain, and 2) the use of animals as form of distraction during painful medical procedures (e.g., venepunctures).
