Maria Fitzgerald is a Professor of Developmental Neurobiology in the Department of Neuroscience, Physiology & Pharmacology at University College London. Her laboratory leads the world in the study of the neurobiological mechanisms of infant pain and has pioneered the use of neurophysiological techniques to analyse pain processing in immature animals and humans. She collaborates widely with other scientists and clinical investigators and a particular strength of her research is its application to the clinical management of children and infants in pain. She was awarded the Jeffrey Lawson Award for Advocacy in Children's Pain Relief by the American Pain Society in 2010.
