I am a third year medical student with a special interest in pediatric pain assessment. I have a previous B.A. (Honours) degree in psychology. During my previous degree, I carried out research on children's ability to use a verbal numeric rating scale to self-report pain severity. I carried out this study to determine how the verbal phrases used as the top anchor for a 0-10 scale may serve to reduce or improve a child's ability to use this commonly used assessment tool.
